Lou Moon is located into one of Ghana's most beautiful corners. The hotel is right by a small bay and a ocean, giving you beautiful view of sea, beach, and... read more palm trees. It really feels like being into a tiny tropical paradise.
Rooms are large, and clean, with their private balcony. The food is good, and the cocktails are definitely worth ordering. Staff was very helpful and attentive.
The hotel is also really nice for families with children. There are large grassy areas for them to run and play, and the hotel supplies balls and other games. There is also kid menu at the restaurant, which is always appreciated.
I had originally planned to go in November, and I had to cancel my stay because of an illness. The hotel allowed me to keep 80% of my reservation booking for a future stay, which I found very nice, considering I cancelled on the day of travel.
23/04/2019Nice resort; HORRIBLE & DECEPTIVE PRACTICES!! - UPDATED: And the plot thickens. Moreover it has come to my attention that there MAY be a discrepancy in the name provided to me as the person responsible for the rates and discrepancy. I was told the agents name is Elsie. Upon information, the agent may have lied about her identity and may be known as Therese. Who knows?! What I can attest to and confirm is that this resort is full of manipulation, lies and DECEIT. Just left Lou moon resort where I had a one night stay after leaving cape coast. The resort itself is beautiful, the food is lovely. The butlers Kennedy and Fred are very helpful. But do BEWARE the nickel and diming and unexpected charges applied to your bill upon check out. Specifically with the front desk staff - Grace and Elsie. Prior to my arrival I had been in communication with Grace about my booking, the number of rooms and the number of guests. I had also made a 50% deposit in advance. Upon arrival, Elsie informed me that I was booked for 4 rooms instead of 3 and urged me to make use of the 4. At checkout the bill was completely botched!! I was charged for spaghetti and pumpkin soup for guests that left the day before!!! Moreover the bill that had been previously supplied by Grace was now higher due to the addition of children that Grace had included. In other words, they tried charging twice for kids. I left the hotel paying $300 more dollars than I intended to!!! Also note, while food is included in half board, no drinks are included. You even have to pay for water. Douglas the manager tried to assist upon departure but was unable to do much. All in all, I will not be returning. There are other resorts popping up in ghana that adhere to honest billing practices. For example, Busia Paradiso has peaked my interest. Despite the wonderful ambiance, I do not want to deal with the poor communication of Lou moon again.
26/07/2022My partner and I just returned from Lou Moon lodge where we spent the first half of our honeymoon. The staff really cannot do enough to help you and are extremely friendly. To get her we flew 40 minutes from Accra to Takoradi (which is pretty cheap by European standards) and then the airport provided a taxi collection which was 150 Cedi's each way and about 1.5 hrs. We stayed on the island which we would thoroughly recommend. I know it is difficult to pay for this accommodation if you are not from Ghana as it is by bank transfer which incurs quite a lot of fees but what we didn't know was that the price included breakfast and dinner. A lot of seaweed gets washed up on the beach each day and the staff do a fantastic job of cleaning it up. The deck chairs on the beach were set up for us each day with a mattress and clean towels.
The room... where do I start? We honestly have never stayed anywhere like this. Waking up surrounded by the ocean and just lying in bed listening to the waves was just magical.
There was no wifi in the rooms on the island but that was perfect. No tv in their either so you really can just relax and enjoy the surroundings. For those of you that need wifi, there is wifi in the bar area.
We really cannot recommend this place enough.
In terms of things to be improved, we really cannot think of anything at all! We would stay here again if we were ever to return to Ghana. More

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Lou moon, so much that I paid in advance for my next trip. The views, sleeping to the sound of beach waves, the service,... read more the food; my best friend and I enjoyed it all. The rooms were well cleaned, meals nicely served, pretty much, every thing we asked for we got. If you ever need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Lou moon is perfect. It was a 6 hour drive from Accra but I later found out we could have flown into Takrodi which is an hour or so away from the resort. Make sure you get the massage by the beach, Gloria is amazing.

Douglas, the manager, was a pleasure to talk to and had obvious pride in the establishment and his work there. Loved the relationship with the surrounding community. Stay in villa one of you can. Matter of fact, we relaxed as soon as we entered the grounds and had seen the room, the... read more restaurant and the beach. Swimming was great in the sheltered bay, although the water was not very clear it was nice to sorkel a bit too (saw a (dead) seaturtle , a parrotfish and much more smaller fish of differet species. Snorkelset was available to borrow and we got clean towels every day for the beach and another set for bathing. We enjoyed a wholesome massage.
Very friendly management and staff in general! Food and service were good although a few of the veggie dishes could have been a bit more well thought out (the spaghetthi mocking squash was great though!). They have a nice vegetable garden up the hill where the grow some of the vegetables and herbs used in the kitchen. Having a look there as well as walking further along the footpath towards the next village was very enjoyable and recommendable! The forest is pretty lush and there are little plots of cassava here and there. Some nice birdwatching can be done here and the views along the path and beach are pretty. We didn't reach the village at the end of the path.
Personally I feel the place could only appeal to me more by being somewhat more 'eco', e.g. promoting wildlife watching, doing social/environmental projects in the community, installing solar panels, biogas installation, etc. although they may have very good reasons for not doing so (or me not knowing about it). Also the electricity during dinner runs on a generator, to avoid powerdips. Understandable but not very 'green'. I dont know if there is a reasonable alternative.
Other than these small remarks I can only recommend the place as a very nice beach retreat to totally relax and indulge yourself. Best enjoyed at the end of your trip to Ghana I guess! 🙂 Considering the food being included and the great service, its good value for money. To top it off the owner was nice enough to let drive with him to Accra. Merci beaucoup, au revoir!

With slow and limited assistance (or communication) maintenance is eventually called and this issue is fixed after 30 - 45 mins. Unfortunately reception staff do not know the password for the router. Ok, no wifi then. So abandoning any plans I had to work, or rest, I head to dinner.
The food is amazing. I have a couple of drinks and am at no stage informed that this is a surplus cost. So imagine my surprise when I am asked the next day to pay for said drinks. Utterly confusing, unclear, and well below expectations.
Morning. I slept well, the room itself is lovely. I spotted (both in reception, and on the card in my room) that breakfast is served till 1030am. Great, I’ll have enough time to have a little explore before having some food and checking out.
This, again, is a lie. Fortunately I head down to have a quick coffee and am surprised to learn that the kitchen actually closes earlier than advertised and I must have breakfast immediately if I want any. Guess those plans are out of the window.
Breakfast is fantastic. Fine, I’ll just have a quick look around after. I heard the island chalet is gorgeous, maybe they’ll fix the service in future and I’ll bring colleagues for a better experience. Hang on, turns out that is not allowed either. I suppose it’s all well and good - I will not be back.
At no stage during my stay was an apology offered for any of the above. As any kind of service this is a cardinal sin. "Luxury" ?
After checking out, on the road away fighting every impulse I have to leave an honest review publicly - the hotel contact me.
Turns out the bill for the room (advertised at 1710 cedis for 2 bedrooms with balcony access) is actually 1761 cedis for 1 bedroom, no balcony, no wifi, 2* “luxury” service. So I should please leave the balance with the driver!
For context that is just over $300.
Overpriced in my opinion: a great location and well designed hotel with excellent food let down completely by the service (especially poor communication). More

Some points to improve:
1. Your policy states it is a... read more quiet resort. Then please be consequent when an (adult!) guest plays loud music from his phone at breakfast.
2. The food-at-island service is great, but could get an eco-upgrade (replace aluminium foil and plastic with reusable covers (eg beewax paper?)
3. Towels have had their best (read soft) time.
4. Some tactically positioned rocks could improve access to the island
5. Leaving few more minutes between the courses will not make people impatient 🙂
6. Website with terms & conditions could get an update. E.g. to make it more clear that full board is only available on festive days.
We understood that the owners schedule to add 11 tentrooms (like Zaina) to the lodge, of which 4 would have a private pool. More
